Short on length and big on foliage-filled views, the Beaver Dam Trail is an easy fall hike that you’re sure to love! The trail’s perks don’t end with the short length and seasonal foliage, though. The trail is lined with lovely vistas, including lush forests and plenty of wildlife.

Beaver Dam Trail is one of several hiking trails in the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge occupies 48,000 acres in three counties - Noxubee, Oktibbeha, and Winston.

The scenic trail begins near Bluff Lake, which is typically surrounded by vibrant foliage in the fall. From the lake, it follows Oktoc Creek, winding through bottomland and hardwood forests.

Aside from a few stairs at the beginning of the hike, Beaver Dam Trail is relatively flat, making for an easy hike.

Leaves aren’t the only thing you’ll spot on Beaver Dam Trail. Wildlife, such as great blue herons, wood ducks, and white-tailed deer, is also a common sight. Don’t expect to see any beavers, though. They haven’t inhabited the area for quite some time.

The end of the trail is marked with a sign saying such. Once you reach the end, simply turn around and re-trace your steps.
