When you want to get out on the water, Black Creek is a great choice. Not only does it wind through the De Soto National Forest, but it’s Mississippi’s premier canoeing stream. Luckily, Black Creek Canoe Rental is on hand to supply everything you need for a relaxing day of fun in the sun (and water). Take a look:
Located in the tiny community of Brooklyn, Black Creek Canoe Rental has been in business since 1977, making it Black Creek's oldest and most experienced outfitter.
Offering fun and easy canoe trips, which range in length from 3 – 14 hours, Black Creek Canoe Rental is a great visit for families and groups of all ages.
But don’t let the name fool you; the outfitter doesn’t just rent canoes. Single-person and two-person kayaks are also available as well as shuttle service to and from the creek.
The perfect summertime adventure, you can leave your worries at home and enjoy the sights and sounds of the surrounding forest as you drift lazily down the creek.
It’s not just the surroundings that’ll impress, though. There’s also the creek’s water, which at first glance, appears brown but is actually crystal clear.
So, why does the water appear brown at first glance? The brownish tint is actually caused by tannic acid from the decaying leaves of trees that border the stream.
And while Black Creek Canoe Rental provides mostly everything you need for a fun float, there is one thing you’re responsible for – a mask. Don’t worry, though, masks are only mandatory when riding in the shuttle to and from the creek.
Black Creek Canoe Rental is open Monday – Saturday, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sundays, from 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. For more information, call (601) 582-8817. You can also visit the Black Creek Canoe Rental website or Facebook page.
