With over 135,000 acres to explore, it’s safe to say that the Gulf Islands National Seashore is a nature lover’s paradise. Sprawling across the Gulf of Mexico’s barrier islands in Florida and Mississippi, you could spend a lifetime exploring the natural beauty here, but you’ve got to start somewhere! Both Florida and Mississippi’s areas are divided into districts, and Mississippi’s Davis Bayou Area is the only portion accessible by car, making it the perfect starting point. The Davis Bayou Trail in Mississippi is a picturesque nature trail that the entire family will enjoy, so go ahead and bring the youngest nature lovers out for the adventure.
Located in Ocean Springs, the Davis Bayou Area features a campground, visitor center, and even a boat launch for aquatic adventures.
The Visitors Center is a great spot to start, and there are several exhibits here where you can learn all about the thriving ecosystems and wildlife in the area, as well as conservation and restoration efforts.
There's even a picnic area nearby, so be sure to pack some snacks to enjoy either before or after the trail.
