The beat goes on at the Little Big Store! A small-town store with a big reputation, it’s the coolest place to go shopping in Mississippi – and not just because of its amazing selection of music-related merchandise. There’s also the setting. Like some sort of time warp, the Little Big Store is reminiscent of record shops of the 1970s – and that’s in addition to being located in an old train depot from the 1880s.
Flashback to 1981: MTV makes its debut and the Little Big Store opens in Mississippi.
Not only are there remnants from the building’s days as a train depot, but the store’s walls are plastered with posters, retro stickers, and other music-related memorabilia, harkening the old-school records stores of the 1970s.
The inventory is also a true blast from the past. The Little Big Store is comprised of a maze of rooms – each of which is filled with thousands or, quite possibly, millions of records in an array of genres.
In addition to records, the Little Big Store carries tapes, CDs, 8-tracks, posters, magazines, and other music-related items.
Don’t get the wrong idea, though. Likened to a "well-organized hoarder’s house," the inventory is fairly easy to sift through.
One of the most sought-after places to go shopping in Mississippi, the Little Big Store has been visited by history buffs, train enthusiasts, and die-hard music fans from all over the world.
It even had its fair share of famous shoppers, including rapper David Banner and former Lynyrd Skynyrd backup singer Leslie Hawkins, who survived the band’s 1977 plane crash in Mississippi.
