Although stumbling upon an incredible roadside eatery in rural Mississippi isn’t too uncommon, it’s always a pleasant surprise. Finding these hidden culinary gems usually happens by accident; however, sometimes, you’re lucky enough to get the inside scoop – and this is one of those times. So if you’re ready to experience one of the best meals of your life, read on to learn about an incredible roadside café hiding in rural Mississippi.
This is Clancy’s Café. You’ll find it along a lone stretch of highway in the small community of Red Banks in Marshall County.
The tiny café may not look like much on the outside, but you definitely don’t want to pass it up - and that’s because it serves up what many diners refer to as the best home cooking in the state.
Inside, you find casual digs that are sure to make you feel at home, which is fitting since the café is known for its southern home-cooked grub. More specifically, the fare can be described as "southern soul with a Cajun flair."
Southern favorites, like fried chicken, okra, and macaroni and cheese, are available in seemingly endless amounts thanks to a buffet of nearly identical proportions.
…the café’s unique cooking technique. Using a smoker with both a flat-rack and vertical-rack, juices drip down to the meat below, further enhancing the flavor.
But no matter what you order, every meal at Clancy’s Café starts off the same way – with some complimentary hush puppies and onion relish for dipping. The delicious appetizer has received rave reviews (even from self-proclaimed "onion haters").
Open Thursday through Saturday, from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., and Sunday, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., Clancy’s Café is the perfect place for everything from an after-church meal to a quiet dinner for two.
