If there’s one thing we Mississippians know, it’s catfish. And if you want the best catfish, you have to go where the locals go, which is usually an unassuming eatery in a small town…cue Charlie’s Catfish House. The eatery’s perfectly prepped whole catfish, hushpuppies, and coleslaw consistently draw in hoards of hungry diners. But don’t let a crowd discourage you from seeking out this small town gem – the fish is said to be some of the best in the state. Take a look:
A classic southern fish house, Charlie’s Catfish House is located along a stretch of highway in a small town. More specifically, you’ll find it in Ellisville, where it’s been since opening in 1976.
The small town locale hasn’t kept Charlie’s from garnering approval from fish fans, though. Those living anywhere near the eatery know it’s the place to go to satisfy a seafood craving.
And while the menu may be small, the catfish are BIG – and that’s because Charlie’s serves whole catfish. That’s right; you won’t find filets at Charlie’s.
Exquisitely seasoned and fried to perfection, the catfish is said to be some of the best in the state. Excellent catfish isn’t all Charlie’s is known for, though.
Charlie’s Catfish House is open Thursday – Saturday, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. For more information or to place an order for pick-up, call (601) 428-1442. You can also check out the eatery’s Facebook page.
