1. Dunn’s Falls, Enterprise
Our waterfall adventure begins at the most iconic and tallest cascade in Mississippi - Dunn's Falls. Built in the 1850s, this 65-foot gem once powered the grist mill that stands next to it. Today, it serves as a recreation playground with picnic areas, grills, hiking trails, and more. It’s a great spot to swim or for a small fee you can fish on the Chunky River where the falls plunge into.
2. Clark Creek Falls, Woodville
If there was a Disneyland for waterfalls, Clark Creek Natural Area would be it. This scenic spot has not 10, not 20, but 50 waterfalls for you to explore. Some are tiny little gems, while others are between 10 and 30 feet tall. One of the best waterfalls inside the nature area is the Clark Creek Falls, which is the first one you’ll get to as you explore. It’s less than a mile to get to this marvel and you’ll easily fall in love with the picturesque scene.
3. Cooper Falls, Iuka
Tucked inside J.P. Coleman State Park, Cooper Falls is a 50-foot hidden gem that is a sight to behold. Not only is it one of the biggest waterfalls in Mississippi, but it’s also one of the coolest cascades on our list, as you can only access it by boat from Pickwick Lake. This gives you a chance to spend the day on the water swimming, fishing, or simply relaxing. Plus, as an added bonus, you’ll have access to all the amenities of J.P. Coleman State Park.

Hikers, you’ll be happy to know that there are several waterfall hiking trails in Mississippi that lead to some incredible rewards. One of my favorite things is to view waterfalls from different angles. And if I can walk behind one and get some great pictures then I am in nature heaven. You can do just that when you hike the 2-mile Bear Creek Outcroppings Trail to see Bear Creek Falls. You’ll love this trek as you’ll encounter unique rock formations, natural springs, and you’ll even need to cross a swinging bridge along the way. This is a great kid-friendly trail so bring them along for the adventure.
5. Clark Creek Natural Area Trails, Woodville
Yes, Clark Creek Natural Area is also on our list for the best waterfall hikes in Mississippi. After all, within the 700-acre preserve, there are over 50 waterfalls to discover, and with over 5 miles of hiking trails, it’s no wonder that folks travel from as far as Louisiana and Tennessee just to hike these trails. Be sure to wear good hiking boots as some of the areas can be quite slippery and muddy. Also, for the best experience, you should hike these trails after a good rain so that the waterfalls will be flowing in all their glory. You can easily spend the entire day inside this waterfall wonderland.

6. Tishomingo State Park, Tishomingo
With its unique landscape and incredible rock formations, Tishomingo State Park attracts outdoor enthusiasts from all over. And while some might be there to take advantage of the amenities, the waterfall hiking trails are also popular. There are over 10 miles of hiking trails inside the park, and after a good rain, you can easily discover some incredible cascades as you meander along the trails. 7. Elvis Presley Center, Tupelo
If you have never visited the Elvis Presley Center, then here’s your chance to add it to your list. There is a pretty little gem of a waterfall inside the park. This is one of the easiest waterfalls to access in Mississippi. No hiking is required and it’s accessible to folks with all abilities. Plus, the waterfall is illuminated in the evenings, which adds more to its beauty. Not to mention that it’s located along Reflections Lake, so what this waterfall lacks in size, the stunning scenery makes up for it.
8. Owens Creek Waterfall, Hermanville
Located at milepost 52.4 on the Natchez Trace Parkway, just 15 minutes from the town of Port Gibson is Owens Creek Waterfall. You’ll need to plan ahead to see this fall in all its glory, as it only flows heavily after a good, heavy rainfall. Over the years, the creek that feeds the falls has dissipated a bit, but don’t let that stop you from visiting this hidden gem. It’s an easy access waterfall that can be viewed from above just a few steps from the parking area. And when you’re done marveling at the falls, drive a few miles down to see the ghost town of Rocky Springs.
9. Geyser Falls Water Theme Park, Philadelphia
When it comes to easy access waterfalls in Mississippi, the waterfall at Geyser Falls Water Theme Park is perhaps the most fun one to explore. The waterfall is tucked along the 1,200-foot lazy river, so all you need to do is float on by to see this man-made beauty. For extra fun, you’ll want to float underneath the waterfall, especially if it’s a hot day. You can also witness the falls from a nearby bridge, which gives you a different viewpoint as well as a place for great photo ops. Although this waterfall is man-made, I love the rockwork that surrounds it…giving it a natural look.
Best Waterfalls Near Jackson
Jackson is the largest city in Mississippi, and it’s surrounded by natural beauty including several waterfalls. In fact, we featured Mint Spring Falls in Vicksburg, a hidden waterfall just about 45 minutes away. Unfortunately, this gem is off-limits to the public. But have no fear, I found a few waterfalls near Jackson that are great destinations for day trips for you and your family.
10. Seminary Falls, Seminary
As one of the best waterfall swimming holes in Mississippi, Seminary Falls is great for a day trip from Jackson. Located along Okatoma Creek, it’s about an hour drive to get to the falls. Don’t expect to find towering cascades here, instead, you’ll be greeted with tiny little waterfalls flowing over the rock inside the roaring creek, creating the ultimate swimming hole. If you’re an avid water adventurer, then you’ll love kayaking at these rapids. You can rent one from Okatoma Outdoor Post and spend the day in the area. Also, pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic while you’re there.
11. Merit Water Park, Mendenhall
By no means is the waterfall at Merit Water Park towering over your head. In fact, just like Seminary Falls, the tiny cascades are formed from the cool spring waters of Rial Creek flowing over the rocky creek bed. But don’t let that stop you from visiting this hidden gem. Merit Falls has spring-fed crystal-clear water that remains cool all year long, making it a great spot to cool off during the summer months. Only 30 miles from Jackson, you can easily spend the day swimming and be back home in time for dinner.
12. Rocky Falls, Crystal Springs
One of Mississippi's true hidden gems is located in Crystal Springs, just 30 miles away from Jackson. Not many folks know about Rocky Falls, a small but beautiful cascade on Turkey Creek, so you could potentially have the scenic spot to yourself. Be sure to stop by Chautauqua Park, which is an underrated park boasting a 35-acre scenic lake, nature trails, natural springs, and more. This would be a fun day trip adventure from Jackson.
