In 1919, it transformed into a grocery store when it swapped ownership in 1948 when Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Phillips bought it and started making what would be their famous hamburgers.
USA Today named Phillips Grocery one of the top three hamburger restaurants in the United Stated in 1989. Then, in 1995, Gourmet Magazine praised these hand-crafted burgers as an American classic. Men’s Journal, the L.A. Times, Delta Airlines Sky Magazine, and Mississippi Magazine have all sung their burger praises over Phillips Grocery, and we’ve even covered the Holly Springs location in a previous article.
