America's Oldest Christmas Tree Tradition Takes Place In Mississippi...And It's Absolutely Mesmerizing

Traditions are a big part of the holiday season in Mississippi. But many don’t realize the state is home to one of the nation’s oldest Christmas tree traditions. For decades, the Belhaven Singing Christmas Tree has been delighting the young and old alike. The annual event, which includes a 35’ tall Christmas tree made up of a 100-person choir, has grown tremendously over the years. Take a look:

Belhaven’s Singing Christmas Tree is the "first and oldest outdoor singing event in the country." Mignonne Caldwell, a former music professor, dreamed up the idea and, in 1933, it became a reality. The first concert was such a success that the Singing Christmas Tree became a beloved annual tradition. Now in its 85th year, the concert continues to draw in thousands of people and has even been named one of the top 20 events in the southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society.
