In 2012, the National Geographic Channel launched a reality series called “Abandoned.” The series followed three men as they traveled to abandoned properties across the country, searching for antiques and other one-of-a-kind items. Eventually, the men made their way to Mississippi, where they rummaged around a property that had been abandoned for over a decade. After a bit of searching, the men came up with some pretty impressive (and surprising) finds.

The episode was filmed in Fulton, which is located in the northeastern part of the state. Fulton was incorporated in 1837, and the abandoned property shown in the episode was actually one of the first settlements in the area. The property is so old, in fact, it doesn’t even have an address.

The property, referred to as Owens Homestead, was inhabited by the Owens family as early as the 1830s.

The family moved to the area, built a remote cabin and farm, and began producing cotton and corn.

They lived on the farm for years; however, the family eventually grew tired of the financial struggles that came along with pioneer life, and shortly after World War II, moved away.

The last remaining family member living on the property died in 1998, leaving it abandoned for over a decade.

In the episode, the cameras follow the men as they rummage through three abandoned buildings on the property – a barn, cabin, and cottage. While in the cabin, the group found an antique spinning wheel, dating back centuries. The cottage turned up some real treasures as well, including an Edison phonograph from 1903 and an antique Windsor ice box, which was a common item before the refrigerator.

The cottage also contained the most shocking find of all – a top secret Boeing B52 Manual, dated July 1953. The restricted manual belonged to a member of the Owens family, who served in the military.
