There are a lot of things we Mississippians love and have no problem admitting. (Like catfish and sweet tea.) Then there are other things that we may not be so quick to fess up to. And if you need convincing, keep reading. Here are 9 things most Mississippians actually love, but would probably not admit out loud.

1. Having to turn on the AC in the winter.

Sure, this may seem like a nuisance in the moment, but think about the alternative. Freezing temperatures and mounds of snow? No thanks!
2. Our accents…

Admitting that we love our unique drawls would mean acknowledging that we actually have accents. And we don’t, so that’s the end of that.
3. The phrase "hotty toddy" will always have more than one meaning.

Even if you’re not an Ole Miss fan, this phrase is sure to remind you of home – and that’s something we can all appreciate, football fan or not.
4. Having to describe the location of your home town based on its proximity to the nearest major city.

This may seem like a bother at times, but it’s actually a blessing because it means you're lucky enough to live in small town Mississippi.

5. The fact that going on an uninterrupted walk is nearly impossible.

If you’ve ever tried to go for a stroll in rural Mississippi then you know what I’m talking about. You can’t go more than a couple of steps without someone pulling over and asking if you need a ride. This is truly an amazing problem to have!
6. Our innate ability to deliver the politest insults ever heard.

We Mississippians may be known for our hospitality, but that doesn’t mean we’re pushovers. The best part is, we sound nice even when that’s not the intention. And "bless your heart" is a prime example of this talent.
7. Instant grits.

"No self-respecting southerner uses instant grits." Everyone remembers this famous line from the movie My Cousin Vinny. However, no matter how entertaining that movie was, the statement just isn’t true. Sure, the real version would be better, but when you’re in a bind, instant grits will do just fine.
8. The "everybody’s related to everybody" thing is kinda true.

There are a lot of untrue stereotypes out there about Mississippi. And then there’s this one. Let’s be honest, how many times have you mentioned someone and heard, "That’s my cousin." And that's okay; it's just a reminder of how lucky we are to be so close to our families.
9. Coming back home.

Sure, it’s always nice to get away. But it’s even nicer to come home. So whether you’re coming home from a weeklong vacation or moving back after being away for an extended period of time, there’s nothing like returning to the Magnolia State – no matter how much fun you had while you were gone.
