Graveyards can be peaceful and comforting. They can also be a bit on the creepy side. And if you agree, you’ll definitely want to stay away from the following Mississippi cemeteries. Not for the faint of heart, each and every one of the 13 graveyards listed below has some type of eerie legend associated with it. Take a look:
Visitors to this secluded cemetery have reported hearing a low voice coming from nowhere, which is usually accompanied by an overwhelming sense of dread and the feeling of being chased by an invisible force. According to several websites, numerous car crashes have been caused by people trying to quickly flee this cemetery.
This cemetery is the final resting place of dozens of Confederate soldiers… and the site of several strange supernatural occurrences. Sightings of phantom soldiers are not uncommon at the cemetery and are often accompanied by the aroma of gunpowder and the sound of gunshots, cannons, and other explosives associated with battle.

After Laura Kelly’s death in the late 1800s, her husband was so distraught he commissioned a renowned Italian sculptor to create a statue of his beloved. The grieving husband then had an extra floor added to his home, solely for the purpose of viewing his wife’s statue. Today, visitors to the cemetery claim the statue of Laura Kelly appears to be weeping, perhaps still heartbroken about leaving behind her loving husband.

Many believe this Columbus cemetery is where the first Memorial Day celebration took place; however, that's not its only claim to fame. The area of the cemetery that holds the graves of Civil War soldiers is supposedly haunted by a phantom soldier. The ghost has been seen at night, patrolling the graves of his fallen comrades.
According to local legend, this graveyard is haunted by the ghost of a young boy. The phantom child is frequently spotted wandering through the tombstones.
Part of Sycamore Baptist Church, this small town cemetery is home to one creepy legend. It’s been said that if you sit on a bench within the graveyard, you’ll feel something (or someone?) breathe down your neck.

Located down an isolated dirt road and surrounded by woods, this small cemetery is beyond creepy. Those entering the graveyard must pass through a gate, which according to several visitors, forcibly closed on them while trying to exit. It's also been reported that a lady in white is present and, oftentimes, gets way too close for comfort.
Tucked away behind Piney Grove Baptist Church, this graveyard is said to be home to numerous apparitions. One of the most notorious is the ghost of a man in a tuxedo. Legend tells us that he’s searching for his bride, who broke her neck and died on their wedding day.

Located in the small town of Picayune, this cemetery is reportedly haunted by a woman in a white wedding gown. Visitors have reported seeing the phantom bride run toward them with her arms open.
A supernatural hot spot, this Lumberton cemetery is allegedly haunted by ghostly shadows as well as full body apparitions. In addition to an intense "feeling of dread," many visitors have reported seeing the shadowy figures move about the headstones.
Among the graves that fill this cemetery is that of Henry Grey Vick, which is known to have a supernatural visitor from time to time. Vick died in a duel just days before was set to marry Helen Johnstone. Completely heartbroken, Johnstone attended Vick's funeral in her wedding gown and watched his casket disappear into the ground on May 21, 1859 — her intended wedding day. Johnstone's spirit has been known to visit Vick's grave — oftentimes sitting in the bench shown in the background of this photo.
Located in Yazoo City, the historic Glenwood Cemetery includes several significant gravesites, including one that belongs to an infamous witch who, according to legend, wreaked havoc on the city decades ago. Named the second spookiest cemetery in the country, it’s now open for tours, which are put on by costumed storytellers, making for a truly memorable (and informative) experience.
Hidden in a ghost town, this eerily secluded cemetery may not have a reputation for being haunted but it’s still worthy of a mention. It’s located in Rodney and tucked away deep in the woods behind one of the town’s few remaining buildings —
Rodney Presbyterian Church. Nearly camouflaged by overgrown trees and greenery, it contains hundreds of forgotten graves.
