Sometimes, you just need a break from everyday life. And if you’re looking for the perfect escape, you’ve come to the right place. From national forests to remote resorts, here are 11 secluded spots practically guaranteed to take you away from it all.
Perfect for an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, this 155,000-acre treasure is made up of sparkling lakes, lush greenery, pine forests, and unique bottom lands. The forest also includes the Chewalla Lake Recreation Area, which features a pristine 260-acre lake. And since the lake is no-wake, it’s great for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking.
With more than 700 acres to explore, Clark Creek Nature Area is a great place to get away from it all. Since there are both primitive and improved hiking trails, navigating the Woodville treasure is a breeze, even for the inexperienced hiker. And you’ll definitely want to do some exploring, as Clark Creek is known for its waterfalls, huge rock formations, and other rare sites.

Only about 15 miles from Ocean Springs, Horn Island isn’t exactly "off-the-grid" but it sure does feel like that. Unlike a couple of the state’s other barrier islands, there’s no ferry service to this one, which means crowds aren’t the norm and peace and quiet is. So, whether you’re looking to spend a day on the water or hoping to find a secluded camping spot, Horn Island can deliver.

This national seashore features white sandy beaches, pristine water, historic forts, recreational activities, and more – which means you’ll probably want to devote some time to exploring it. The Davis Bayou Area in Ocean Springs, which is the only part of the national seashore that’s accessible by car, includes a nature trail, campground, boat launch, and great fishing.
Bound to be an outdoor adventure like no other, this trail leads you straight though a cypress swamp. The .5-mile loop trail, which is located at milepost 122 on the Natchez Trace, includes plenty of detailed signage along with close up views of the swamp. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled – alligator sightings are not uncommon.

The secluded resort has been rated one of the nation’s top destinations for deer and turkey hunting, but that’s not all it has to offer. Encompassing thousands of acres, guests at Tara Wildlife can take part in everything from serene strolls to exciting wildlife tours.

Described as "the ultimate relaxation destination," this 75-acre retreat offers something for everyone. The signature "inn-clusives" include horseback riding, fishing in the 8-acre stocked pond, and transportation to the Natchez Trace Parkway and Tanglefoot Trail for cyclists. And as the name implies, the grounds include a farm, so you can watch horses, goats, and other animals roam around the property.
This trail is considered a bit difficult, but the effort is definitely worth it. Spanning 1-mile, it traverses hilly Appalachian-like terrain and includes a graveled stairway trail, which leads to a ridge top overlooking the stunning Baker’s Pond.
Located in Columbus, the Plymouth Bluff Center is a 190-acre recreational facility, complete with a lake, pond, and several nature trails. One of the most popular trails, the Old Channel Trail, is ideal for a scenic stroll, as it goes along the top of a bluff before coming to an end at its base, which is actually a great spot to look for fossils.
