There’s no denying that life in Mississippi is pretty amazing. There’s also no denying that we residents tend to be pretty picky about some stuff. It’s not our fault, though; there are just certain things we’ve grown accustomed to after spending an extended period of time in the Magnolia State. Don’t think this applies to you? Check out the list below for 10 things Mississippians just can’t help but be picky about.
Manners are still a big deal here in Mississippi. Children are taught to say "yes ma’am; no ma’am; yes sir; no sir" and to always use "Mr. or Mrs." when addressing elders. Some may call it old-fashioned; we just call it respectful.
Used on everything from veggies to tomato sandwiches, mayo is much more than a condiment in Mississippi. Most swear by a particular brand, which is usually Blue Plate, Duke's, or Hellmann’s. It’s such a serious matter, it’s likely that relationships have ended over this one.
If Mississippi had an official food, it’d definitely be fried catfish, so it’s only natural that we’re pretty tough critics when it comes to the fried favorite.
When it comes to dressing there are two options: cornbread and oyster. Either way, most Mississippians are pretty particular about this classic side, and getting them to waver is nearly impossible.
Making fried chicken is practically an art here in Mississippi. Ask most Mississippians, and they’ll tell you a cast iron skillet is the only way to properly prepare the fried favorite.
Greens have been a part of most Mississippians’ diets their entire lives, which means the bar is set pretty high.
