Opened in 1935, the Mayflower Café is the capital city’s oldest operating restaurant. The café’s retro feel is hard to ignore and even caught the attention of movie executives who decided to feature the restaurant in 2011’s "The Help."
In continuous operation since its opening in 1865, Borroum’s is practically guaranteed to transport you back in time. And if the countless artifacts and antiques that decorate the place aren’t enough to do it, grabbing an old fashioned milkshake at the soda fountain counter should do the trick.

From the black and white checkered floor to the colorful stools and booths that line the old-fashioned soda shop, the atmosphere at Brent’s is definitely reminiscent of a time long gone. And don’t think the retro vibe ends there, as the menu is filled with classics like omelets, burgers, and, of course, root beer floats.

Originally built in the 1930’s, this Greyhound station has since been restored and turned into an office space for the architecture firm of Robert Parker Adams. Aside from the building maintaining its classic look and feel, it is also historically significant as three Freedom Riders were arrested here for using white facilities.
