Mississippi is full of so many restaurants that choosing where to dine can be a bit difficult. However, one surefire way to make the right choice is to ask a local. Residents always know of the best, most obscure places. And just in case you can’t find a resident to ask, we put together this list of mouthwatering restaurants that locals can’t seem to get enough of. Read on to see if your favorite eatery is listed.
Whether you visit this Waveland restaurant for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you won’t be disappointed. The menu is full of southern favorites, including mouthwatering po’boys, fried catfish, and gumbo.
As Tupelo’s "home for original live music," the atmosphere at this eatery can’t be beat. The menu isn’t so bad either. Look over it and you’ll find an array of "clever, hands on bar food," which includes an impressive selection of specialty sandwiches and burgers.
Sure, this place may look like a quaint little house on the outside but inside you’ll find some of the best burgers in Mississippi. While the restaurant is known for the "Burger Burger," (which is served on po’boy bread with a special mustard blend), the menu includes regular burgers and some seafood dishes as well.
4. Handy Andy Grocery and Market (800 N Lamar Blvd., Oxford)
A true definition of a "hole-in-the-wall," this Oxford eatery may not look like much on the outside but inside you’ll find some of the best (and most affordable) pit-smoked barbecue and burgers around.

5. Phillip’s Drive In (330 S Magnolia St., Laurel)
In business since the 1960s, this staple is a must visit while in Laurel. The made-to-order hamburgers and specialty sandwiches are extremely popular among locals and have even been recognized in "Mississippi Magazine."
Known as "the Dip," this drive-in restaurant has been a local favorite since opening in 1947. No matter what you order, saving room for dessert is a must. In addition to a variety of fast food eats, the menu includes over 100 flavors of ice cream, sundaes, and milkshakes.
7. Main Street Market Cafe (902 Cherry St., Vicksburg)
A true hidden gem, this eatery is tucked away on a back street of downtown Vicksburg. Well worth the search, Main Street Market Café focuses on made-from-scratch meals, which include quiches, soups, specials, and pies.
Offering everything from daily lunch specials to po’boys and catfish plates, this long time local favorite has continuously received rave reviews from customers. And the only thing that beats the mouthwatering fare is the unbelievable prices – nothing on the menu is over $10.
9. Ole Biloxi Fillin’ Station (692 Howard Ave., Biloxi)
Aside from the atmosphere at the Ole Biloxi Fillin’ Station (it’s housed in a gas station from the 1900s), it’s the food that’ll make a lasting impression. The eatery’s menu is brimming with local cuisine and includes favorites, like po’boys and seafood. Be sure to try the Crawfish Nachos – it’s a restaurant specialty.
This legendary café has been serving Starkville for over 70 years now. The mouthwatering menu includes all sorts of home cooked classics, which are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
