Not Many People Realize These 10 Little Known Haunted Places In Mississippi Exist

Located down a long, narrow dirt road, visitors to this Warren County cemetery have reported hearing a low voice coming from nowhere in addition to an overwhelming sense of dread and a feeling of being chased by something.

A portion of this well-travelled highway is said to be haunted by the ghost of Hal, a former shipyard employee. According to local legend, Hal murdered his wife and five children while staying in a Pascagoula motel. After completing his heinous act, Hal wandered aimlessly down the highway at which point he was ran over and killed. To this day, witnesses say that Hal can still be seen wandering down the highway.

Constructed in the 1840’s, this Vicksburg mansion is said to be haunted by its former residents, the Klein Family. Visitors have reported seeing apparitions of Mr. and Mrs. Klein in the home, hearing the couple's children roam about the halls, and actually smelling Mr. Klein’s pipe. But the Kleins aren’t the only paranormal inhabitants. A young woman, also a former resident, committed suicide in the home and has been seen by several witnesses on the anniversary of her death.

Built in the early 1800’s, Monmouth Plantation has had many occupants over the years, and one of them, General John A. Quitman, has allegedly never left. Guests of the current-day bed and breakfast have reported seeing the General, dressed in a military uniform, inspecting the grounds. A few guests have even reported being woken up by him checking on them in their rooms.

After losing her husband in the war, a local woman was so devastated she chose to end her life by standing on these railroad tracks and allowing a train to hit her. Witnesses today say that if you stop on the tracks and honk your horn three times, you will see a lantern floating above the tracks, which is believed to be held by the woman’s ghost while still searching for her husband.

Over the years, several car accidents have occurred in almost the exact same location on this road, with most survivors reporting the same series of events. Every driver claimed to stop their vehicles after spotting what appeared to be blood on the road. After investigating the unusual sight and returning to their vehicles, witnesses claim that headlights would suddenly appear out of nowhere and a dark colored van would crash into their stopped vehicles before disappearing back into the darkness.

Built in the mid-1800’s, this antebellum home is believed to be haunted by two spirits - a man and a woman. The man, who reportedly committed suicide in the home, can still be heard walking around in the bedroom in which he took his life. While it is not known exactly how the female spirit is linked to the home, she started appearing once an antique photo was placed in the home.

In the late 1930s, the city of Tupelo was struck by a deadly tornado. Being one of only two large buildings left standing, the Lyric Theater served as a makeshift hospital used to treat the injured. Unfortunately, several residents lost their lives in the theater and, as it turns out, some of the victims are still lingering. One spirit in particular, Antoine, has been known to move things around and, on several occasions, has been heard humming as he moves about the theater.

This 400-acre island is the site of not one, but two, of the state’s most mysterious entities. Both ghosts were documented for the first time in 1922. According to records, two fishermen who were camping on the island were chased by a headless skeleton. This same story was repeated by several others, leading to the entity being deemed the "Ghost of Deer Island."

Throughout the years, there were reports of the island being afflicted by another entity – a supernatural blue light known as "Firewater Ghost." The mysterious light has been spotted moving across the bay between Biloxi and Ocean Springs long before the invention of electricity. Many believe the light is some type of ghostly guard, patrolling the area with a lantern in his hand.

Since this historic home was opened for touring in 1941, several visitors have found something unusual in the photos taken during their time at Beauvoir. Dozens of photos appear to have apparitions in the background. Jefferson Davis, along with his wife and daughter, has been caught on film. Beauvoir wasn’t officially investigated by a paranormal team until 2014. The group spent the night in the home, at which time several occurrences were caught on film and in recordings.
