Law enforcement rangers and the Polar Polers Ski Club are teaming up to offer a weekend of free Nordic skiing at Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota. So, bundle up and head on out!

Over the weekend of February 24 through 26, 2023, Voyageurs National Park law enforcement rangers will team up with the local Polar Polers Ski Club to offer several free Nordic (cross-country) skiing events over the weekend.

You can borrow equipment at no cost from the Rainy Lake Visitor Center in International Falls.

However, supplies and sizes are limited, so you may wish to bring your own equipment along if you have it. Snowshoers are also welcome on the trails during the event.
The trails will be specially groomed for the event, which will take place on the Black Bay (Friday and Saturday) and Tilson Bay (Sunday) Ski Trail Systems.

Skiers should meet at the Black Bay ski trailhead at 5:00 p.m. for dusk skiing on Rainy Lake on Friday, and at the Black Bay Ski Trail from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday for daytime skiing.

Sunday’s event will take place from 10 am to 3 pm on the Tilson Bay Ski Trail.

On Saturday, the Polar Polers will offer cocoa and burgers and on Sunday, cocoa and hot dogs.
On Friday the 24th, at 7:00 p.m. and after you’ve finished skiing, Astro Bob will host a free stargazing event.

Perhaps the aurora borealis will make an appearance at this ​​certified Dark Sky Park.
