When most people imagine the beach, they think of the ocean. And because Minnesota doesn’t have any sea coasts, our beaches are often overlooked. But in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, there are more than a few excellent beaches for whiling away sunny days. In fact, there are entire towns dedicated to the summertime fun you can find at any ocean beach. One of our favorites is an unspoiled beach town in south-central Minnesota that is just waiting for you to visit.
Spicer, Minnesota, is located in Kandiyohi County, about 100 miles west of the Twin Cities.
There is something to do all year long. First, this little town is full of charm. Tree-lined streets give way to cute houses and quaint local businesses.
Luckily, there are plenty of places from which to enjoy the lake. Spicer Castle is a famous bed and breakfast that will provide a historic backdrop to your lake stay. There is easy access to the lake from the castle.
There are several county parks in town that offer opportunities for those who don't want to stay overnight. County Park 4 is across from a bait shop. Combined with the boat launch, this park is your gateway to great fishing!
Other beachside recreation? Hiking and biking trails will let you get outside without getting wet. There is a trail around Green Lake as well as a portion of Glacial Lakes State Trail nearby.
All in all, Spicer is a hidden beach town that you need to visit this summer. Fishing and swimming are just a few things to do in this quaint little town.
