With warm weather in the picture, Minnesota is about to play host to dozens of excellent festivals all across the state. There are many great ones, from fishing events to art celebrations, but perhaps none are as anticipated as Minnesota’s food festivals. One favorite takes place each year in Pine Island, Minnesota. Head down this June 3-5 for the Pine Island Cheese Festival. Read on below to learn more about this cheesy event:
Pine Island Cheese Festival is an annual festival in Pine Island, Minnesota. It's been going on for nearly 100 years, since 1936, and it celebrates the town's place as the Cheese Capital of the World. In 2022, the festival takes place on the weekend of June 3-5.
Pine Island earned its Cheese Capital title in 1911, when dozens of cheese factories existed in the area. Some local cheesemakers created a 6,000-pound cheese for the Minnesota State Fair. Today, the Pine Island Cheese Festival parade displays a replica of the cheese.
Besides the big cheese, the parade also serves to put local businesses and organizations on display. It's a wonderful way to take part in this small town's thriving community!
There are many other popular parts of the festival, too. For example, people race rubber ducks down the river during the duck race. Anyone can take part for $2 or $3 per duck!
Many enjoy browsing the craft and vendor market. There are many local makers and service providers who put their best on display. It is a great way to see what's available in the community!
Live entertainment is also in the cards -- watch local musicians put on a great show at this festival! Other favorite activities include a golf tournament, a water fight, and more!
The activities are great, but you can't visit a cheese festival without trying the food. There are many food vendors here who sell all kinds of cheese-themed items and more!
