Trent Jonas came to Minnesota to attend college - and never left. He's a Twin Cities-based writer with a BA in English and a MFA in creative writing, a Minnesota Master Naturalist, and the proud father of two adult children. With more than a decade of freelance writing experience under his belt, Trent is often out exploring his favorite topics: Minnesota's woods, lakes, and trails. Rhubarb pie is his weakness, so discovering new diners is also a passion.
It seems that the toy stores of yesteryear have largely fallen by the wayside as folks have shifted their shopping patterns to large retailers and online outlets. But there’s one independent toy store in Minnesota that is not only going strong, it’s a destination unto itself. That’s right, I’m talking about the inimitable LARK Toys in charming Kellogg, Minnesota.
LARK Toys is located along the Great River Road - U.S. Route 61 - in Kellogg, Minnesota.
But it's more more than just a toy store. This Bluff Country institution is a destination for kids of all ages. In fact, some folks travel hundreds of miles to spend a day at LARK Toys.
You'll find an incredible selection of toys, games, dolls, stuffed animals, and kids' activities at LARK.
A walk down Memory Lane, in this case, literally and figuratively, will have you reminiscing about your own childhood, remembering your favorite toys, as well as those you coveted but never got.
This beautiful piece is as much a work of art as it is a ride, and folks line up to have their pictures taken with the fanciful creatures adorning it.
LARK is more than just a toy shop and museum - it also makes its own line of hand-crafted, wooden toys. These toys hark back to a simpler time when quality and creativity combined to spark kids' imaginations.
There’s is so much to do and see and LARK Toys that I can’t really fully describe what it means to experience this toy store in Minnesota. Suffice it to say, there’s enough to see and do that you could easily spend a whole day there. While you’re in the area, be sure to save time to visit one of my favorite Bluff Country hiking spots: The Zumbro Bottoms Management Unit of the Richard J. Dorer Memorial Hardwood State Forest is just minutes away from LARK Toys.
Have you visited LARK Toys in Kellogg? What was your favorite thing about this amazing place?
