What’s your favorite lake in Minnesota? If you ask 1,000 Minnesotans, you’re likely to get 1,000 different answers. Being the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota has many possible lakes to choose from, each with something unique to offer. Our famous lakes are great for fishing, ice hockey, canoeing, or simply taking in beautiful views. It’s impossible to rank our lakes, but many have tried.
In fact, the folks at Architectural Digest have named one lake, in particular, as the most beautiful in Minnesota. Lake of the Isles topped their list thanks to its beautiful surroundings. We know that not all will agree. But whether or not you’re a Lake of the Isles fan, here are some of the best things about what has been called Minnesota’s top lake:
Lake of the Isles is a popular lake in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Spanning 109 acres just outside of downtown Minneapolis, it is also connected to nearby Cedar Lake and Bde Maka Ska.
The lake is known for its beautiful surroundings. Surrounded by stately homes, old trees, and plenty of green grass, it’s a picturesque place that draws plenty of visitors. In fact, more than 5 million people visit the lake each year!
For many, the green areas around the lake are perfect spots to spread out a blanket and watch the sunset — or even the sunrise. There are also plenty of benches around the perimeter.
Besides sunrises and sunsets, Lake of the Isles is also a great place to spot wildlife. There are plenty of squirrels and other critters, as well as ducks, geese, and many other birds.
But sitting and admiring the beauty aren’t the only things to do at Lake of the Isles! A paved path leads all the way around the lake, making it a popular spot for walkers, joggers, and cyclists. It's just under 3 miles in length.
Canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding are popular summertime activities at Lake of the Isles. You can even get a permit to store your own kayak or canoe at one of the lake’s racks for the season.
There’s no denying that Lake of the Isles is one of the most beautiful lakes in Minnesota. But are there any other lakes that top it? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
