In 2015, Minnesota was named the 2nd smartest state in America by the Washington Post. The score was based on average IQ, SAT scores, ACT scores, and the percent of college graduates in the state. Of course, now that we know of our superior intelligence, we want to know which areas in the state had the largest role in helping us achieve that ranking… So we found them. Here are MN’s top 11 smartest places ranked with some help from Lumosity, NewGeography, and FindTheHome.
The Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington metro area is ranked 33rd in the US for smartest places. We think all 3 of these cities deserve top spot for being so crucial in helping MN achieve 2nd smartest state! The area has seen 43.7% growth in college-educated population from 2000-2013 and is full of brilliant minds, coming in at #33 in Lumosity's data rankings.
Moving past the name (because everyone in the 2nd smartest state has already thought about those intelligent puns) the brainiacs here make it #2 in the state according to Lumosity, and #37 in the country. It's obviously much more than just a vacation town.

This college town is #42 on Lumosity's list and has seen 37.9% growth in college-educated population from 2000-2013.

#43 on Lumosity's list and adding more college graduates to their city each day (56.9% more in 2013 than in 2000)!
#69 for Lumosity performance and with 28.9% more graduates in 2013 than 2000, Duluth is on the rise in the intelligence rankings.
Together #98 on Lumosity's list and with a 27.1% increase in college-educated population, Mankato is another college area showing its intellectual superiority.
Minnetonka Beach has the highest concentration of college grads in the state (78%)!
