Pengilly is a Mesabi Trail town in Minnesota, on the Iron Range, that makes for a great pit stop after a day of hiking or biking. It’s definitely worth taking a few hours (or a few days) to explore the area.

The Mesabi Trail is a 135-mile, mixed use trail that runs between Ely and Remer. It connects several Iron Range communities and showcases the area's natural beauty. The Mesabi Trail also comprises a segment of the North Country National Scenic Trail's Minnesota stretch.
If your time on the trail left you feeling thirsty, grab a cold one at Dozer’s Bar and Grill. It’s a favorite local haunt that’s not too far from the Pengilly access point to the Mesabi Trail.

It's an awesome place to learn more about Minnesota's geological history and mining industry, to do some fossil hunting, or to just relax in a beautiful North Country setting. The Mesabi Trail passes directly through Hill Annex Mine State Park, as well.
After a day exploring the Pengilly area, MJ’s Lodge and Resort, on the south end of Swan Lake, is a great place to grab a meal or spend the night.
