Here in Minnesota, you don’t have to travel far to find an adorable small town that you’ll fall in love with. From Stillwater to Lanesboro to Ely, there is a beautiful and charming town in every region of the state. Each has its own unique scenery and attractions that make it an ideal place to live and visit. That definitely rings true for the small town of Houston, Minnesota. Whether you’re planning a visit or just passing through, this tiny town will capture your heart. Here’s why:
Houston is a quiet town with a population of just under 1,000 people. But don't let its small size fool you. There is plenty to do there.
Nestled in southeastern Minnesota's bluff country, Houston's landscape is made up of gently rolling hills. From summer to winter, the scenery is a sight to behold.
These hills are ideal places to go on ambling hikes through the beautiful country landscape. You'll find incredible places to relax with a picnic or a book.
With the Root River flowing nearby, Houston is also an excellent place for canoeing and kayaking. This gently flowing river is surrounded by trees and cliffs.
The Root River State Trail is also a great way to get outdoors in Houston. You can start at the eastern end of the trail and head west towards Lanesboro, or you can start out west and finish your day in Houston.
You can also take a visit to the International Owl Center. Their programming allows visitors to learn about owls and see them in action. The unique natural playground run by the center will delight young visitors.
All in all, Houston is a charming small town with a lot doing on. Anyone who visits will fall in love with the activities, people, and beautiful scenery.
