When the snow is falling in Minnesota (and boy did it really fall this week!), a lot of people get excited to sled, snowmobile, ski, and snowshoe across their favorite local parks. A lot of us seem to forget the vast, empty, inviting state parks, covered in layers of fresh snow, just waiting to be explored. In fact, when it comes to sledding in particular, these 10 parks have some epic sledding hills the likes of which just can’t be compared to most local spots. Check out these parks for a fresh sledding opportunity this weekend, and the chance to experience them when they look like a winter wonderland!
1. Mille Lacs Kathio State Park has so many recreational opportunities, and you can spend the whole winter snowshoeing, sledding, ice fishing and snowmobiling.
This park is in Northwest MN, and is one of the least visited, so you can turn the warming house and sledding hill into your personal winter playground.

3. Fort Ridgely State Park is a snow-covered dream in the winter - and boasts a pretty sweet sledding hill!
It's a win-win with this park, and there's a warming house right next to the sledding spot to keep parents warm.
8. The steep slopes at Upper Sioux Agency State Park make it one of the most fun places to sled - but beware, the hill near the entrance is a challenging one!
There's even a warming house on top of the hill for parents!
If you have an AMAZING local sledding spot, share it with your MN neighbors in the comments! And be sure to share your sledding photos on the Only In Minnesota Facebook Page!
