Ask 100 Minnesotans their favorite lake and chances are, you’ll get 100 different answers. We all have a favorite lake for one reason or another. Some are attracted to unknown lakes in the middle of nowhere. Others love city lakes full of activity. And still others prefer to visit the most beautiful lake they can find. If you’re part of the third group, Deer Lake in Itasca County is for you. This sapphire lake is great for swimming and fishing, but it is best viewed from afar. Why? Because its color is truly gorgeous.
Take a look:
Deer Lake is located in Itasca County, about 200 miles north of the Twin Cities.
Remember how we called it the lake of changing colors? Deer Lake is bright blue by day, but by night it often shines beautiful shades of red, purple, pink and orange.
