If you had any plans for the next 48 hours that included anything other than staying inside and keeping warm, then we hate to break it to you but that’s absolutely all you will be doing. Like so many states, Minnesota is not the exception when it comes to getting hit with 2016’s Polar Vortex. Tonight, the lower half of the state is predicted to be hit with some pretty heavy snowfall. Are you ready Minnesota?
The National Weather Service reports that the heaviest snow is expected to fall between 6:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. this evening.
The storm is primarily hitting the lower half of our state; this morning Minneapolis received one to two inches of snow with another five to eight inches reportedly on the way.
A Wind Chill Warning is also being issued, with dangerously cold wind chills coming that will cause frostbite to exposed skin in as little as ten minutes.
The Wind Chill Warning will remain in effect from noon on Saturday until noon Sunday. The coldest wind chills are expected to hit Minnesota around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and early Sunday morning, with winds blowing as high as 30 mph.
Heavy snowfall is on track to hit Southern Minnesota with anywhere from four to eight inches of snow this evening.
Those who find themselves needing to travel during this storm are urged to be equipped with flashlights, food and water in the unfortunate event that an emergency takes place.
Like always, be sure that you’re even more cautious than usual if you absolutely have to go out and travel during this storm. To our fellow Minnesota residents, we hope you have plans to cozy up to a mug of hot cocoa while you binge through all of your favorite Netflix shows.
