One of the best places to explore yurt camping in the Land of 10,000 Lakes is Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, where you’ll find a veritable yurt village in Minnesota.
Located near Brainerd, Cuyuna Country Recreation Area is a year-round mecca for outdoor enthusiasts.
The recreation area contains six natural lakes, as well as 15 mining pits that eventually filled with crystal clear water - all in all, it boasts 25 miles of shoreline within 5,000 acres of mostly-forested land.

Those who wish to set up base camp in the area, but not sleep in a tent, will be pleased to know that three yurt sites are situated on the shore of Yawkey Mine Lake.
Don’t worry, though, the area also offers plenty of opportunities for non-motorized winter sports, such as fat biking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing.
If you happen to pass through Brainerd on your way to or from (or both) Cuyuna Country, be sure to stop in at The Barn for a lip-smacking slice of pie.
