Here in Minnesota, the season of drive-in restaurants is limited. For much of the year, most places close up shop to weather the cold. But when those places are open? You can’t drive many miles before hitting a great place to eat, one with fantastic food and a fun atmosphere to boot. One of our favorite places happens to be the oldest drive-in restaurant in Minnesota. Head to the southern Minnesota city of Winona to check out a spot that, after over 80 years, still has cars lining up around the corner. Read on below to learn more about this iconic drive-in restaurant:
Lakeview Drive Inn is a popular drive-in restaurant in Winona, Minnesota. Open since 1938, it's the oldest drive-in in Minnesota, and it still draws crowds more than 80 years later!
This is definitely the type of spot where you'll want to avoid taking your food to go. You can eat in your car or at one of the picnic tables near the restaurant. Either way, it's fun to take in the upbeat, welcoming atmosphere as you eat.
As for the food, Lakeview Drive Inn specializes in diner staples. You cannot go wrong with a burger, and there are about a dozen on the menu. A classic cheeseburger is always a great option, or you could try the Toddy burger, topped with lettuce and a special sauce. Yum! Alongside a pile of fries - or better yet, cheese curds - this is a delicious meal.
And you can't go wrong with a couple of hot dogs! Top 'em with ketchup and mustard or chili and cheese - or all of the above - and you'll have a classic American meal that will be more than satisfying.
If you're craving an old-fashioned classic, try a root beer float! Lakeview Drive Inn makes all of its root beer, and it's a delicious accompaniment to any meal at this classic restaurant!
