We all know that New York and Ontario are home to the real Niagara Falls. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of other beautiful waterfalls across the country – including in Minnesota. In fact, Minnesota is home to a border waterfall of its own. Also shared with Ontario, the High Falls of the Pigeon River is Minnesota’s own Niagara Falls. It’s one of the prettiest place in the entire state. Take a look:
You'll find Minnesota's Niagara Falls at Grand Portage State Park. This beautiful, remote spot is on the northern border with Canada.
There are many trails leading to the waterfall. The High Falls is easily accessed by a .5-mile hike from the parking lot. To see the Middle Falls, it's an additional 3.5 miles.
When you finally reach the High Falls of the Pigeon River, all of your efforts will be forgotten anyway. This breathtaking waterfall rises 130 feet above the landscape. That's only 37 feet shorter than the real Niagara Falls!
At 130 feet tall, the High Falls of the Pigeon River is Minnesota’s tallest waterfall. Plan a trip to Grand Portage State Park this summer to see it in all its glory.
