Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area is located just east of the Brainerd Lakes Area, and unlike most state parks, which maybe have a lake or two at most, Cuyuna Country is a Minnesota park with many lakes – like more than a dozen – for you to enjoy. Check it out!
The first thing that may come to mind for most folks when thinking about Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area is mountain biking.
Cuyuna Country boasts miles of single track and is probably the premier mountain biking destination in Minnesota. But the backdrop for the park's trails is also noteworthy.
Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area is home to more than a dozen lakes, including six mine lakes - iron ore pits that filled in with water - and more than 27 miles of natural lakeshore.
Yes, many cyclists, hikers, snowmobilers, and cross-country skiers flock to the park for its trails, but water lovers also find much to adore about Cuyuna Country.
Want to stay longer? There is a campground in the park with 29 sites - 18 with electric hook ups - and an additional four walk-in sites (also non-electric).
If you're looking for more upscale accommodation in the park, three yurts on Yawkey Mine Lake are available for rental throughout the year.
For more information on the park, its facilities, and making reservations, visit Cuyuna Country’s website. If you plan to stay in the vicinity but don’t want to camp – or are unable to book a site or a yurt – True North Basecamp is located adjacent to the park and offers both camping and mini-cabins, which are available for rental year-round.
