Where do you go when you want a home-cooked meal? You could whip something up yourself or take a trip to mom and dad’s. But there’s an easier option: visit one of the many mom & pop restaurants scattered across Minnesota. You can’t go wrong with any of the 12 mom & pop restaurants we listed here, but today we have another option. This place may be small, but it’s made a name for itself by serving mouthwatering home-cooked meals.
Essig is an unincorporated community just outside of New Ulm. Driving through, it doesn't look like much more than a wide place in the road.
But looks can be deceiving. The unassuming community contains an equally humble restaurant called Carl's Corner. The restaurant is operated by two brothers.
Every day, the kitchen turns out food for locals and tourists alike. It seems everyone who stops in has something positive to say. There's a reason for that.
The chicken still draws crowds and praise. If you're ever in the area on a Saturday night, stop in. You'll find friendly locals gathered to enjoy good company and great food.
