Minnesota is often thought of as a fly-over state, with freezing winters, humid summers, classic midwestern culture, and the same old standards in education and business. Most people outside of MN don’t realize not only how amazing MN is to live in, but how important it is to the rest of the country. We are constantly having to prove ourselves to non-Minnesotan relatives, and it’s getting old. So here’s the end of that. Here are 10 concise, and completely real reasons why Minnesota is the most underrated state.
1. Most people write off Minnesota because of the cold winters.
But it's really not so bad. All of the amazing recreation opportunities that come along with the drop in temperature make it one of the most fun places to be in the snow and ice. We don't let the cold get us down.
2. Our culture is under-appreciated, and we are thought of as just one of the midwest states.
While we do have a lot in common with the others, we definitely have our own unique Northern culture. We are the North and we are proud to set ourselves apart.

3. Yes, there are lakes, and everyone knows that. So what?
Minnesota lakes provide accessible recreation for all of its citizens, and make summer in MN unparalleled to the other states. The lakes are not only beautiful, but they remind us to spend time in nature and they break up the cities and suburbs to make them more peaceful.

4. People tend to forget how many spectacular sights there are to see in Minnesota.
Until you know a Minnesotan, you wouldn't know how much companies like General Mills and 3M contribute, and that they're based right here outside of Minneapolis.
Between the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota, we have made the most important medical breakthroughs and have arguably the best care for many ailments right here in MN.
All hockey and accent jokes aside, the people in Minnesota are one-of-a-kind and living in MN will give you a life full of wonderful friends. When it comes down to it, they really are super nice.
Minneapolis consistently makes the list of most literate cities, our K-12 education is high ranking in many places, and the state is full of inventors and entrepreneurs.
Yes the MN State Fair is EPIC, but Minnesota has a festival for just about everything. Every weekend you can find a new and exciting event to attend in MN. It's the best state to get out and be social.
Sure we don’t have one of the largest cities, or an ivy league school, but Minnesota still matches and exceeds those other states. Why did you choose to live in Minnesota? What do you tell people who question that?
