At the end of 2015, Minneapolis was listed as the best city to live in in the United States. There has been an influx out outsiders from the Midwest moving to Minneapolis seeking jobs and for the relatively progressive nature of the city. Those who have moved to Minneapolis from around the entire country have received a crash course lesson on the city and what life like here is like. Here are ten things you quickly earn when you move to Minneapolis.
1. Target isn't just a store, it's a lifestyle.
With corporate headquarters based in downtown Minneapolis and nearby Brooklyn Park, Minneapolis is naturally Target obsessed. The Target store on Nicollet has been recently revamped and features a liquor store, an expanded beauty section, improved produce, and lower prices. Minneapolitans can't get enough.
2. Winters in Minneapolis are terrible, but you will survive them.
During the winter, rivers and waterfalls mostly freeze over, and you'll want to stay in bed all day when it's below zero for two weeks straight, but winter isn't permanent. On the plus side, winter in Minneapolis, is kinda really pretty.
3. Summers in Minneapolis make the winters bearable... Almost.
Every summer, Minneapolis becomes a playground. Parks throughout the city showcase live music and movies, the city's lakes are full of activity, and everyone is out and about after a long winter hibernating. Summer in the city is magical.
4. "Minnesota Nice" really means "Minnesota Polite."
Minneapolis transplants have often said it's hard to get to know the locals because everyone is so polite and you don't actually know how they feel about you. Minneapolitans keep their opinions to themselves and judge from afar. Once you get beyond our exterior, Minneapolitans will be some of the kindest people you've ever met.
5. Minneapolitans wear their city pride on their sleeve.
If you move to Minneapolis, you'll notice a shocking number of people have some sort of Minneapolis or Minnesota based tattoo. Whether it's an outline of the skyline, the state boundaries, or a clever graphic design of the city's initials, residents in Minneapolis want you to know how precious this city is to them.
If you're not a tattoo type, there's still tons of awesome Minneapolis and Minnesota gear out there; in fact, we love our home state so much, we've made our own! Check out the

6. Even if Bob Dylan doesn't want much to do with Minneapolis, we still love him.
He spent a solid stint in Minneapolis as a young man, but apparently wants to forget about it. Minneapolis still dedicates murals to him and will hope he someday loves us back.
7. Tater Tot Hot Dish is actually delightful.
We know it looks like vomit, but if you're going to move to Minneapolis, you're going to have to try this concoction and we guarantee you'll actually love it.
8. No one in Minneapolis has that terrible accent directly out of the movie Fargo.
Travel 235 miles northwest of Minneapolis and celebrate Fargo Fest with the other Coen Brothers fanatics if you really want to hear all of the "you betchas" and "dontcha knows."
9. Prince is practically a deity in Minneapolis.
Much of Minneapolis' music identity is based on Prince and the Minneapolis sound in the 1980s. Prince Rogers Nelson loved Minneapolis, and we loved him back, unabashedly. Around the city you'll see things like the 35-W Bridge lit up purple at night on his birthday and anniversary of his death, murals, and of course his gold painted star at First Avenue.
10. You'll realize Minneapolis is a whole lot more lovable than you originally thought possible.
Many people who have moved to the city have remarked on just how much they actually love Minneapolis and didn't necessarily expect to find a home here, but are happy they did.
There’s no place like home; Minneapolis welcomes any newcomer to the city and hopes you’ll love it just as much as we do.
