How often do you wonder about how something is made? For many of those who do, a simple internet search isn’t satisfying. Luckily for Twin Cities residents, there are factories open to the public for tours. There’s nothing like really seeing how your favorite beer or piece of candy is made. Here are five fantastic factory tours that you can only take in Minneapolis-Saint Paul:
It can be argued that Summit is THE craft brewery of the Twin Cities. Their beers are widely served at many restaurants and bars throughout the area, and sold in most, if not all local liquor stores. If you want to go behind the scenes, you can take a tour at their Saint Paul brewery, which doubles as a restaurant. As long as you reserve your spot ahead of time, the brewery tour is free and you'll receive free samples along the way.
Summit Brewing Company is located at 910 Montreal Cir., Saint Paul, MN 55102.
Pearson's Candy Company has been in operation since 1909 to dole out popular candies like the Nut Goodie and Bit-O-Honey to people all over the country. Their factory headquarters in Saint Paul still makes many of their classics to distribute to stores. Take a tour and experience how they make nougat for the center of a Salted Nut Roll.
Pearson's Candy Company is located at 2140 7th St. W, Saint Paul, MN 55116.
The city of Minneapolis was built upon flour milling. In the mid 1800s, both Gold Medal Flour and Pillsbury used the mighty Mississippi and Saint Anthony Falls in their milling operations. When the Washburn A Mill exploded in 1878, it killed employees and devastated the area. The museum was built within the ruins of the mill. You can experience the mill and all of the history behind it, including a baking lab.
Mill City Museum is located at 704 S 2nd St., Minneapolis, MN 55401.
Chocolat Celeste is like Willy Wonka come to life. The store sells the most decadent chocolates that look almost too pretty to eat, but you can watch the magic happen in the factory as well. It is amazing.
Chocolat Celeste is located at 652 Transfer Rd., Saint Paul, MN 55114.
Gin, vodka, whiskey, oh my! For those of you who love craft spirits and liqueurs, you can take a tour for $10 at Tattersall on Saturday afternoons. The tour features a tasting session and a souvenir glass to keep.
Tattersall Distilling is located at 1620 Central Ave. NE. #150, Minneapolis, MN 55413.
