This year, try planning trips to the many little-known parks across the state. They may not be as visited as spots like Split Rock or Gooseberry Falls. But they hold a beauty all their own, and they’re well worth exploring. Read on to learn about one of our favorite little-known parks in Minnesota. It offers spectacular views of the Mississippi River.
John A. Latsch State Park is one of the prettiest spots in southern Minnesota. It's right on Highway 61, 17 miles north of Winona and 50 miles east of Rochester.
Those who visit have the privilege of spotting plenty of Minnesota wildlife. Coyotes, foxes, and snake make homes here. And thanks to its location on the river, many birds pass through the area.
The hike is steep, so it will be too strenuous for some visitors. The hike is all stairs, so visitors are able to avoid the rutted, gravely paths found on many other climbs. But it's important to pace yourself - it's a long way up!
