For the most part, we Minnesotans love our state. It offers beautiful nature areas in the form of dozens of state parks, over 10,000 lakes, and countless forests, rivers, and ponds that offer recreation as well as scenic beauty. Not only that, but our state has plenty of wonderful cultural attractions: museums, festivals, and more.
But despite all of the great things Minnesota has to offer, there are still things that can annoy even the calmest Minnesotans. Below, you’ll find our list of six annoying things many Minnesotans always thought we’d hate about our state. But with plenty of patience, we’ve actually learned to love these things. Check it out:
The more you embrace winter, the more you come to love it. We've come up with all sorts of ways to entertain ourselves, from outdoor sports that get up close with the cold to warm indoor activities that keep us far from it. No matter what you prefer to do during the winter, once you live here long
enough, you realize that this season isn't all that bad.
2. Not being allowed to take the last of anything.
Okay, it's not that we're not allowed to take the last cookie or piece of cake. It's that we've been trained since birth that it would be rude. It may seem like we're depriving ourselves of that last tasty bite, but really we feel good that we're doing our part to preserve a funny - if nonsensical - Minnesota tradition
Only one Minnesota professional sports team has won a championship, and that was 30 years ago. Since then, our sports teams have found spectacular ways to fail in every sport. While there have been some major disappointments, we are still holding out hope. One day, maybe we’ll find a way to make it to the top again, but we can't help but cheering on our Minnesota teams anyway.
Traveling Minnesotans are easily spotted as soon as we say a few words. The Fargo references can get annoying. But overall, this is a great thing that allows us to make connections to people in different places. We either meet other Minnesotans far from home, or we get to brag a little about our state when people ask if we're from Minnesota!
Given the number of Minnesotans who claim to hate the Mall of America, this one might be controversial. But those who get past their hate come to realize that the Mall of America is an interesting claim to fame that makes our state unique. Not only that, but it's a built-in place to take out-of-towners curious about Minnsota's attractions!
Whether you're with friends or family, if you're in Minnesota it can take a long time to leave a gathering. As kids, it was especially frustrating to wait for parents to finish saying goodbye. But as adults, most of us have come to accept - and even love - this tradition. When we take forever to say goodbye, it's just our way of showing how much we care about others.
