Minnesota is full of lovely small towns. All across the state, these communities draw in visitors thanks to their scenery, charm, and activities. It’s impossible to choose a favorite, but there are some top contenders. For Lanesboro is a wonderful town in southeastern Minnesota. It’s nestled in rolling hills, in close proximity to the scenic Root River, and it offers plenty to see and do. Lanesboro is a charming small town of about 700 people in the rolling hills of southeastern Minnesota. The town is about 130 miles south of the Twin Cities, making it a nice day trip destination.
Not only is the town nestled within rolling, tree-covered hills. It's also right on the edge of the scenic Root River. A dam on the river creates a scenic waterfall that you'll definitely want to visit.
Many also enjoy hiking or biking along the Root River Trail. There are outfitters in Lanesboro that will have everything you need for a bike trip along the trail. You can even rent tubes or canoes to float down the river!
If you prefer to stay in town, there is plenty to do. Lanesboro's downtown area is walkable, so you can spend the afternoon browsing the shops and restaurants.
