Minnesota is covered in hiking trails! Follow each trail long enough and often enough, and it’s bound to take you to a beautiful sight that could never have imagined. Rushing waterfalls, animal-filled forests, lakeside sunsets, and more await Minnesotans who decide to trek down our state’s many paths. The Kadunce River Trail in Superior National Forest is one such path. This easy out-and-back trail will take you through an enchanting forest along a rocky river that few Minnesotans have seen up close. If you’re looking for a fun and easy new hike to take next time you’re in northern Minnesota, this could be the one for you. Read on below for more information.
The Kadunce River Trail is an easy out-and-back trail in Minnesota's Superior National Forest. At just 1.1 miles in length, it's a great stop to stretch your legs as you drive up the North Shore.
The entry to the trail is at a wayside just north of Grand Marais, Minnesota. The path is unpaved, and it may be overgrown with weeds or roots at times. Come prepared with sturdy hiking shoes.
As you hike into the woods, you'll come across many gorgeous sights. The thick forest and rugged rock formations don't look like many other places in Minnesota.
Of course, it's not just the forest that will enchant you. You'll hear the rushing sounds of the Kadunce River for the entire trek. This little river is a small stream that flows about 8 miles to Lake Superior.
Few have heard of the river, though its beauty rivals just about any along the North Shore. There's even a small waterfall that tumbles over the rocks as the river makes its way to the lake.
Surrounded by the thick forest, with nothing but the sound of water - and maybe a few birds - in your ears, you'll feel like you've found your own private oasis along the Kadunce River Trail.
