Given Minnesota’s more than 10,000 lakes, there are endless opportunities to cool off in the summer. But many of the most popular swimming holes, lakes, and pools are just a little too crowded to fully enjoy them. Luckily, there are secret spots hiding all over the state where you can cool off away from the crowds. One of our favorites is at Afton State Park. This beautiful park has a hidden beach that, when you find it, will become your new favorite spot.
Afton State Park is a small but beautiful park located on the banks of the St. Croix River. You'll find it at 6959 Peller Ave. S, Hastings, MN 55033.
But it is during summertime that Afton State Park truly comes alive. There are 20 miles of hiking trails that are perfect for getting outside on a summer day. Many love this park for its plentiful bird watching opportunities.
It is down one of these trails that you will find Afton State Park's greatest treasure: its beach. Pack carefully, because the beach is a 1/2-mile hike from the parking area.
Have you been to the beach at Afton State Park? What are your other favorite secluded beaches to visit in the summer? Let us know in the comments down below.
