It’s that time again: Girl Scout Cookie season. It’s the time of year that Girl Scouts set up their booths in all the places we frequent the most. Try as we might, it’s nearly impossible to resist their offer for a box or ten of cookies. It’s pretty easy to go overboard when you know you won’t get another chance until next year. But what if we told you there’s a way to support the Girl Scouts without filling your pantry?
At Hi-Lo Diner in Minneapolis, you can do just that. The restaurant has come up with some delicious Girl Scout Cookie desserts that both support a local troop and offer you a brand-new take on your old favorites. Check it out:
Hi-Lo is a relatively recent addition to Minnesota's food scene, but it still has quite the history. The diner was built in 1957. It came to Minnesota from Pennsylvania.
The inside has a retro feel that only adds to the diner's popularity. On weekends, it's not uncommon for there to be a wait as people flock to the diner for brunch.
And now that it's Girl Scout Cookie season, they have a limited-time menu of cookie-themed specials. The Samoa Hi-Top is filled with cream and topped with chocolate, caramel, coconut, and the all-important Samoa cookie.
The Scout's Honor pie is a slice of heaven featuring chocolate and peanut butter custard with crushed Peanut Butter Patties on an Oreo crust. It's topped with whipped cream and a Peanut Butter Patty. Yum!
Hi-Lo Diner is located at 4020 East Lake Street in Minneapolis. They are open Sunday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 1:30 a.m. The Girl Scout Cookies won't last long, so be sure to stop by before it's too late.
