Around the world, people celebrate Christmas by partaking in popular Christmas traditions. Minnesotans are no different. Our favorite Christmas traditions never get old, no many how many years we’ve done them. One of the most beloved Christmas traditions? Making gingerbread people and houses. It’s fun to do at home, but it’s even more fun to see what creations other people come up with. There’s an annual event in Minnesota that takes gingerbread making to a whole new level. One visit will amp up your holiday spirit and maybe even inspire your gingerbread creations at home. Read on to learn about Gingerbread Wonderland at the Norway House in Minnesota.
Gingerbread Wonderland is an annual event held at the Norway House in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This year, the event raises money and donations for Hats & Mittens, a nonprofit that collects winter gear for homeless children.
The event invites bakers of all experience and skill levels to create buildings, people, and other objects out of gingerbread. Then, the creations are put on display!
For $5 a person - free for children 12 and under - you can explore the creativity of Minnesota's novice and professional bakers. After you've seen it all, you can even vote on your favorites in several different categories.
As you walk through the gallery-turned-gingerbread wonderland, you'll find many familiar landmarks in gingerbread form. For example, here's a replica of Matt's Bar, a Minneapolis landmark famous for its Jucy Lucy burgers.
An even more elaborate replica is not far away from Matt's Bar. If you think the St. Paul Cathedral is impressive in real-life, wait until you see it in gingerbread!
But it's not only real-life landmarks that you'll recognize. Entries from popular culture, like this gingerbread replica of the house from Up is sure to be a winner among younger visitors.
Houses aren't the only thing on display here. Gingerbread sculptures from people to animals to musical instruments are on display. The level of detail on some of these creations is truly impressive.
If you're looking for a whimsical way to get into the holiday spirit, check out Gingerbread Wonderland at Norway House! You can stop in Tuesday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event goes until January 5, 2020!
