One of the best ways to see fall colors is from above! But because Minnesota is relatively flat, there aren’t as many opportunities to go up as high as we might like. Fire towers and mountain hikes are fantastic options. But today we want to talk about one that requires much less effort. If you want to see fall color in Minnesota in a whole new way, consider taking a gondola ride to the top of Moose Mountain. Here’s what you need to know:
Lutsen Mountains is a ski area in northern Minnesota's Sawtooth Mountain range. The area is popular for winter skiing, but it may be its most beautiful in autumn.
The dense forest that blankets the Sawtooth Mountains is ablaze with fall color. Orange, red, and yellow leaves mix with the vivid evergreen trees to create one of the most beautiful sights in Minnesota.
One of the best ways to experience the Sawtooth Mountains is from above. Lutsen Mountains operates the Summit Express Gondola, a ride that takes you high above the trees on Moose Mountain.
On the ride up, as you rise 1,000 feet above Lake Superior, you'll have the chance to see wildlife such as bears, deer, and wolves. The gondola ride also passes over the Poplar River.
For more information about the Summit Express Gondola rides, check out the Lutsen Mountains website and Facebook page. And if you can’t get enough fall activity, check out our articles about a fall train ride and an autumn zipline tour.
