Did you know Minnesota only has six drive-in theaters left? That’s a far cry from the many that once dotted the state. Though seeing a drive-in movie may have fallen out of favor, it’s still a summertime tradition for a lot of people. Each of Minnesota’s drive-ins is worth a visit, but this one feels particularly nostalgic to us. Visit for a night spent outdoors, great movies, and some nostalgic fun.
Vali-Hi Drive-In is a perfectly nostalgic spot for some summertime fun.
For $8.50 per person 13 and older - and just $1 for ages 6 to 12 - you'll be treated to a triple feature. They usually play lower-rated movies earlier in the night, with more adult-focused films playing later on.
This drive-in is a popular spot for those who love movies. And who can blame them? It's a great way to see multiple current movies for cheap. But if you want to get a good spot, get there early. The box office opens at 7:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Many choose to listen from their car stereos, but it is also popular to bring a portable radio and watch outside. Just bring a few blankets, and you'll have the most unique movie-watching experience of your life.
Once all the cars have entered the drive-in grounds, the movie will play once it starts to get dark. If you get there early, there may be a wait. But there is lots to do while you wait. You can listen to music from your car, toss a football, or even grill your own dinner.
If you're not in the mood for grilling, there is a fully stocked snack bar.
Here is where you can get popcorn, hot dogs, drinks, and other snacks. The snack bar is also home to a small arcade that may excite families with younger children. Overall, this is a great time that is especially affordable if you choose to bring your own snacks.
Vali-Hi Drive-In is located at 11260 Hudson Boulevard North in Lake Elmo, Minnesota.
