Today, we want to introduce one of our favorite Minnesota festivals that happens to be one of the most unique events you’ll find anywhere. It’s been held since 1948 to celebrate one of the most famous historical events in the city’s history. Read on below to learn more about the events, festivities, and historic reenactments that you’ll find at Defeat of Jesse James Days in Northfield, Minnesota.
Every September, a fun festival is held in Northfield, Minnesota, a community just south of the Twin Cities. Defeat of Jesse James Days is one of the most unique events in the state - and the country! It's been held since 1948, and it's still a popular event 73 years later.
In 2021, the festival goes from September 8 through September 12. For almost an entire week, the town is filled with festivities. Contests and competitions are fun for both participants and spectators alike. There are bingo games, cornhole competitions, races, and more.
If you enjoy live music, you'll be in luck. Local musicians are scheduled to play during the event. Other events include rodeos, antique tractor pulls, and a car show. There is truly something for everyone!
If you enjoy parades, a couple of different ones will happen during the event: the Kiddie Parade and the Grand Parade. Both are fun, feature quirky costumes, and are sure to delight! Both are held in Northfield's downtown area.
The downtown area also features the main event of Defeat of Jesse James Days: the historical reenactment! Costumed actors will take you back to 1876 to reenact one of the most famous days in Northfield history: the day that Jesse James and the Younger Gang attempted a robbery on the First National Bank of Northfield.
The reenactment covers the events that happened after the robbery went wrong. It features horses, a gunfight, and plenty of excitement. There's no other event like it in Minnesota!
