Minnesota has its fair share of natural dangers to be wary of, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that its cities or towns are much safer, either. The Land of 10,000 Lakes has its share of towns and cities that are less safe than others (much like everywhere else does, too). According to our friends at RoadSnacks.com, some of the most “dangerous” cities and towns in Minnesota include Bemidji, where residents have a one in 13 chance of being the victim of a property crime. Minneapolis, being the largest city in Minnesota, is naturally high up on the list of “dangerous” cities; Minneapolis residents have a 1 in 108 chance of being the victim of a violent crime, which is just a little under one percent. Yikes! Other dangerous cities include Waite Park, West St. Paul, and Virginia. Don’t get us wrong, though – Minnesota is still, overall, a safe place to live.

Unfortunately, Minnesota has seen a rise in violent crime over the last few years, but it’s still the 13th-lowest state in the country when it comes to violent crime in the first place. Of course, crime rates tend to vary depending on where you are situated; as we alluded to above, some cities and towns have a slightly-higher likelihood of crime occurring, but that doesn’t mean they’re in the top ten “worst” by any means (we’re really in the top 15 best). Among the safest cities and towns in the state are places like Hibbing, which is the fourth-safest town in the entire country, and Kasson, which averages less than ten burglaries a year. Belle Plain is known for its very low violent crime rate, with less than 0.4 reported in 2013 alone.
