If there’s one thing Minnesotans know how to do well – besides beautiful natural scenery, great cultural events, and amazing wild rice soup – it’s holiday and winter light displays. That’s why there are so many throughout our state. The famous Bentleyville is a must-visit, as are favorites such as Glow Holiday Festival, the Kiwanis Holiday Lights, and Winter Lights at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Today, we want to add yet another fun display for your consideration: the Celebrate the Light of the World display in Willmar, Minnesota. Read on below to learn more about this fun and festive display.
Celebrate the Light of the World is an annual holiday light display in Willmar, Minnesota. This community is about 90 miles west of Minneapolis, making it a fairly close excursion for those looking for an impressive light display.
This is a drive-thru display with many impressive elements. For example, you will drive through tunnels of lights that surround your vehicles on all sides.
There are some areas where you can stop your car and linger for a bit longer. These are great places to get a photo op or simply take in the jolliness and festivity of it all.
The display includes around 900,000 lights and 7 miles of extension cords! Volunteers work tirelessly to turn it into the impressive display it is. The event is free, but it welcomes donations that go to a number of charitable organizations.
In 2021, the display runs from November 25 through January 1. It's lit up from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. each evening, and it's sure to bring some delight to your holiday season!
