In our opinion, Minnesota’s North Shore has some of the most beautiful state parks you’ll find anywhere in the nation. From Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse to Tettegouche and Grand Portage, there are endless places of beauty to explore. But while these popular parks get many visitors, there are some that are often overlooked. One of our favorites, Cascade River State Park, is home to a jaw-dropping trail that everyone should hike at least once. Take a look:

Cascade River State Park is a beautifully rugged state park on Minnesota’s North Shore. The park’s can be found in Lutsen, about 100 miles north of Duluth on Highway 61.

The park has beautiful views of Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountains. But it is centered on the Cascade River as it churns 17 miles to empty into Lake Superior.

One of the best ways to see the river is along the Cascade River Lower Loop. This 1/2-mile trail follows the river along its journey through a rugged, rock-strewn gorge.

The rapid waters are truly awe-inspiring as they cut through the deep gorge, further eroding it day by day. This jaw-dropping hike is unlike anything else in Minnesota, resembling a wild river out west rather than the gentle streams we are used to here. It is a must-visit for all Minnesotans!
