On Minnesota’s North Shore, there are many hiking trails that will lead you to all sorts of beautiful destinations. Some paths lead through the thick forests that are common in this part of northern Minnesota. Other trails head for beaches, cliffside views, and more. And others still lead to delightful waterfalls. You could follow a path to a popular waterfall, like Gooseberry Falls. Or, if you crave a bit more adventure, you could head down a slightly less beaten to the little-known Caribou Falls.

The Caribou Falls Trail is found at Caribou Falls State Wayside. This area is off of Highway 61 on the North Shore, just outside the small town of Silver Bay. There is a parking area that makes it an easy place to stop as you travel along the North Shore.
For example, a bridge and a viewing platform along the trail offer excellent views of the Caribou River Gorge. In the distance, you may be able to spot Lake Superior through the trees.
The trail also offers access to the Caribou River up close. It's not a large or particularly rapid river, but the natural surroundings are a lovely reprieve from the road.
Though Caribou Falls isn't the tallest waterfall on the North Shore, its secluded surroundings certainly make it one of the most fun to visit. The Caribou Falls Trail will lead you straight to this beautiful waterfall!
